The Child is a male force-sensitive Mandalorian foundling that belongs to the same species as Grand Master Yoda. He was born around 41 BBY and held at a compound run by Nikto mercenaries during the New Republic Era. An Imperial hired a Mandalorian bounty hunter, Din Djarin, to retrieve him.
